real cinnabar is actually a permutation of mercury, which it poisonous. any cinnabar you see in jewelry in modern times is actually a resin that is hyper-pigmented to simulate the laquered and carved chinese pieces.
any piece that claims to be real cinnabar is either an antique (and belongs in a museum), or is being falsely advertized.
